How to Estimate CNC Machining Costs

Accurate cost estimation is the foundation of profitable CNC machining. Whether you're quoting jobs for customers or evaluating make-vs-buy decisions, understanding the true cost per part prevents underpricing (losing money) and overpricing (losing work).

The Per-Part Cost Formula

Part Cost = (Setup ÷ Qty) + (Cycle Time × Rate) + Material + Tooling + Secondary Ops + Overhead

Time-Based Costs
